WVU To Offer NSF I-Corps Short Course this Fall – Entrepreneurs Welcome!

The National Science Foundation Innovation Corps (NSF I-Corps) is designed to prepare faculty, researchers, and students to extend their focus beyond the university laboratory and move valuable ideas toward commercialization. In addition, NSF I-Corps can help anyone with an innovative idea and an entrepreneurial spirit – in Morgantown and throughout the state – to identify valuable product opportunities and gain skills in entrepreneurship through training in customer discovery and guidance from established entrepreneurs.

According to Randy Quinn, director of the I-Corps program at WVU, “Essentially, NSF I-Corps is an “entrepreneur bootcamp” for anyone to discover what it’s like to take a product to market and determine whether their idea for a new product or technology can be successful.”

“We’ve got two I-Corps events coming up,” said Randy. “First, an introduction to I-Corps that is open to everyone. It will include a presentation on what I-Corps is all about, some testimonials from folks who have already participated in I-Corps, and a reception afterwards for more informal discussions.”

The Evening of I-Corps event details are:

AUGUST 29TH 4:00-7:00PM

Evansdale Crossing, Room 414

Reception to follow, Roof top bar, 5th fl.

“The second event will be our next actual I-Corps training,” said Randy.  “That will start on Sept. 20, when WVU will lead a five-session NSF I-Corps short course. Three of the sessions will be held at the WVU LaunchLab in the Evansdale Crossing Building and two will be online.”

The schedule for the fall short course is:

  • Friday, September 20 (4pm – 8pm) – Session 1 (In person)
  • Saturday, September 21 (8am – 12pm) – Session 2 (In person)
  • Wednesday Sept. 25 (2pm- 4pm) – Session 3 (Online)
  • Wednesday Oct. 2 (2pm- 4pm) – Session 4 (Online)
  • Saturday Oct. 5 (8am- 12pm) – Session 5  (In-person)

We’ll be choosing up to 8 teams to participate in this training. A team can consist of one to four members who are committed to commercializing a product or service and to learning a valuable technique for testing it in the market.
