The event, which will feature experienced investors, assistance providers and innovators that have “been there and done that,” aims to provide West Virginia tech-focused, research-driven entrepreneurs an opportunity to learn a variety of critical strategies for managing and growing their business. Presenters and segment topics include:
- Mitch Carmichael, Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Economic Development, will discuss the role and importance of entrepreneurism to our economy. Carmichael is uniquely aware of the need to grow jobs within the state, the tools necessary to spur entrepreneurism, and the policy needs to nurture that development.
- To help educate our entrepreneur-filled audience on how to give a sound investor pitch, several West Virginia startups will provide a “live” pitch to a panel of experienced investors. The investors will also offer constructive feedback and strategies for honing this skillset.
- Many entrepreneurs ask, “how do I know when I’m ready to pitch” or “how do I find investors to pitch to”? The Presenting Can Be Such a ‘Pitch’ segment will provide the answers, as well as address how to recover from a bad pitch.
- In the Role of the Investor Post-Investment, learn the expectations an investor has for their newly backed startup and how to effectively structure the relationship.
- And, in Perspectives From the Starting Gate, multiple West Virginia entrepreneurs will offer lessons learned, best practices and words of wisdom for those starting out.
The event is open to all entrepreneurs, assistance providers, small business owners, funders, economic developers, and others. There is no cost to attend.
The agenda and full list of presenters will be announced soon.
This event builds on the content and lessons communicated during the 3 Steps to StartUp Venture Fair held earlier this year (March 2021).
