Canaan Valley is the site of this year’s Women & Technology Conference, which opens on Thursday, October 6 and runs through 2 pm on Friday, October 7.

The conference aims to address the under-representation of women in STEM fields and encourage women involved in technology education and research, private enterprises, the public sector, investing and entrepreneurship.

“This year we’re focusing on how women and technology can help grow West Virginia’s economy through innovation, entrepreneurism and collaboration,” Anne Barth, executive director of TechConnect said. “As a state, we face serious challenges, but there are opportunities for growth and development, as well.  We’re going to explore how women are contributing to economic growth and diversification, and how we can do more,” Barth said.

Conference participants will join in lively discussions on timely issues in six breakout sessions, hear from three dynamic keynote speakers, participate in quality networking, and enjoy dessert under the stars.  A new feature—the Lightning Pitch Showdown—has been added this year in which contestants will vie for bragging rights and prizes in a high-energy, fast-paced format.

The conference has been approved for up to three (3) continuing education credits from the WVU School of Social Work Continuing Education Certification in Nonprofit Management and also up to twelve (12) Local Economic Development credits through the West Virginia Development Office.
