A number of significant grants have been awarded in the last few weeks that will enhance the ability of various state organizations to deliver programs in entrepreneurship education, early stage startup capital, apprenticeship programs, economic development, and manufacturing support.   Congratulations to all of the awardees, and best wishes for successful implementation of the exciting array of programs and projects to be delivered through these grants!  Recent awards include:

• $125,000 from the Appalachian Regional Commission to the INNOVA Commercialization Group at the High Technology Foundation, to provide technical assistance and early stage investment capital to technology-based entrepreneurs and small businesses. Read more.

• $100,000 from the Appalachian Regional Commission to the Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education, to develop entrepreneurship education programs and activities for K-12 students in Calhoun, Gilmer and Lincoln Counties. Read more.

• $773,750 from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to Alderson Broaddus University, to establish an incubator facility that will focus on spurring and supporting rural entrepreneurship. Read more. 

• Nearly $5 million from the U.S. Department of Labor to the Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing at Marshall University, to expand RCBI’s apprenticeship program nationwide.  Read more.

• $100,000 from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to Marshall University for the EDA University Center program, to promote economic development in West Virginia. Read more.

• $625,000 from the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to the West Virginia Manufacturing Extension Partnership at West Virginia University, Industrial Extension (over five years, total award will be $2.5 million). Read more.
