Women & Technology Conference Comes to Charleston September 10

TechConnectWV will host the 2018 Women & Technology Conference on Monday, September 10 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Charleston, WV.

For more information, or to register, click here.

The purpose of the event is to address the under-representation of women in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).  The conference aims to encourage women involved in technology education and research, private enterprises, the public sector, investing, and entrepreneurship.

Addressing the gender gap in tech is important for the state and nation, said Anne Barth, executive director of TechConnect.  “The number of STEM jobs to be filled is huge and will only keep growing.  Adding more women strengthens the talent pool and leads to better creativity, innovation, and productivity,” Barth said.

“In addition, research shows that diverse teams perform better. We don’t even know what amazing inventions we might be missing simply because we’re not tapping enough women in these jobs,” she noted.

Barth said the conference will feature inspiring women speakers on the cutting edge of technology, value-added educational sessions, quality networking and the 2018 Spirit of Innovation Awards.  Technology touches all aspects of life, and the information shared at the conference will be relevant to all industry sectors and educational institutions.

Who should attend?  Women working in technology fields as well as those interested in pursuing, or migrating to, a technology-focused career.  In addition, anyone interested in exploring ways to bridge the tech gender gap and inspiring future generations of girls to pursue STEM fields are encouraged to attend. Technology touches all aspects of life, and the information shared at the conference will be relevant to all industry sectors and educational institutions.
